Unfortunately, Sev's debut is just 2 years
too late. It's a great effort by these guys, but it's going to be
rejected hard from the mainstream. Rewriting the songs for the album
was a good idea, though I think some more of the lyrics could've been
changed. The phrasing makes some lines sound cheesier than they
should be. But the fan of hard rock will eat this up
Highlights: Twisted, 24/7/365
Lowlights: When
Verdict: Buy It
Shootyz Groove- High Definition
Very much what a rap/rock combination should
sound like. Shootyz best album by far has a little something for
everyone.
Highlights: NYC Minute, Dear God
Lowlights: So Much Time
Verdict: Buy it
Spitvalves- Movin On
I don't really have anything good to say
about this. It's really bad ska. Someone might've enjoyed this back
in '98 or so, but not now. The songs are too long and boring, and the
singing is awful.
Highlights: Your Loss
Lowlights: take your pick....
Verdict: Oh no. You don't want this.
Stepa- s/t
The disc starts off with a great little DJ
track. Unfortunately, that's pretty much the last you hear of said
DJ. There are some great standout tracks on this record that are
pretty addictive, but some sound a little too much like Taproot for
my taste...so I pretend they don't exist.
Highlights: Mountain, Spaceships and
Airplanes
Lowlights: Sap
Verdict: Although some lyrics are cheesy, it is a good album. I'd buy
it again.
The Streets- Original Pirate Material
I've gotta say I'm a big fan of this disc. I
was captivated by the video when I saw it on M2 and ran out to get it
the next day, which is something I never do. And I was completely
satisfied. It's quirky, gritty, and offbeat in a well produced way.
Very real, very good.
Highlights: Sharp Darts, Don't Mug Yourself
Lowlights: It's Too Late. He's almost trying to sing and it doesnt
work well
Verdict: Buy it and be cool like the rest of us!
The Stryder- Jungle City Twitch
Um, this guy doesnt really sing. He kinda
talks. And the rest of the band isn't very on key. Ick.
Highlights: New Enemy? A highlight of a bad
album is kinda like picking the best of the rotten eggs.
Lowlights: Summer Coat
Verdict: Thumbs dowwwwn. Leave it for the
dollar bin.
Superdrag- Last Call for Vitriol
The disc starts off with a bit of a 'drag'
but then comes back with an STPish track. A pretty good rock album
when it's rockin, but the slower songs don't do much for me and there
seem to be a lot of them.
Highlights: The Staggering Genius
Lowlights: Way Down Here WIthout You
Verdict: Pick it up if you like some alt. radio rock that you'll
probably never hear on the radio.
Very
